Tibet tour is designed to explore Tibet by visiting famous Tibetan monasteries, monuments, temples, ancient markets and old cities. Tibet, synonyms to “Roof of the World” is a great attraction for visitors for its great mountain ranges, ancient Buddhist monasteries symbolizing vibrant Buddhist culture and beautiful landscapes. Tibet tour explores the mystical land which was closed for the westerners until recent past. Some of the highest mountains of the world, Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma along with other snow capped peaks make spectacular panorama to the north. Exploration of ancient Buddhist monasteries in Lhasa and other small towns and magnificent views of mountains while driving along the high passes and the vast grassland and desert terrain are the main highlights of Tibet tour.
Tibet Tour Route Highlights
Tibet tour starts with one hour scenic flight over the Himalayas to Lhasa. We explore famous Potala Palace, old palace of Dalai Lama, Derpung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet as well as in the world and the principal seat of the Gelugpa school, Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and the oldest temple in Tibet. We further explore Norbulinkha Palace, summer palace of Dalai lama, Sera Monastery, the second largest monastery in Lhasa and Bharkhor Market, the most bustling sections in Lhasa with historical, cultural, religious and commercial importance.
After visiting Lhasa, we drive along Tibetan plateau passing desert terrain, vast grassland, picturesque Tibetan settlements, villages, high passes with spectacular mountain views of giant peaks, Everest, Cho Oyu and Shishapangma. We visit two old Tibetan cities Shigatse and Gyantse en route to explore the ancient monasteries, forts, and citadels. Once we arrive at Nepal – China border, we cross Friendship Bridge and enter into Nepal. After official formalities at the immigration, we drive to Kathmandu. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Meeting at the airport and transfer to a hotel. Briefing of the trip at a convenient time.
Day 02: Cultural Tour and Trip preparation (Obtaining Chinese visa)
Sightseeing tour of Swayambhunath, the Buddhist Stupa the profound expression of Bhuddism in Nepal and Kathmandu Durbar Square, clustered with old royal palaces and distinctive pagoda roofed temples, stone sculpture and old monuments.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Lhasa flight (3670m.)
Fly over panoramic Himalayan ranges from Kathmandu to the holy city of Lhasa. Transfer to Hotel and rest for acclimatization.
Day 04: Visit Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery and Bharkhor Market.
Visit Potala Palace perched upon the Ri Marpo (Red Hill) 130meters above Lhasa valley making it the highest monumental in Tibet. Proceed to Drepung Monastery, The largest monastery in Tibet as well as in the world and the principal seat of the Gelugpa school. Next visit Bharkhor Market, the most bustling sections in Lhasa with historical, cultural, religious and commercial importance.
Day 05: Visit Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Norbulinka Palace.
Visit Sera Monastery, the second biggest monastery in Tibet but badly damaged following the invasion of Tibet and the Cultural Revolution, Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and the oldest temple in Tibet, Norbulinka Palace, summer palace of Dalai lama.
Day 06: Lhasha Drive to Gyantse ( 261 km. approx. 8 hrs.)
Drive to Gyangtse, a pastoral town between Lhasa and Shigatse. crossing over Karola Pass (5010m), Khambala Pass (4794m), colourful Yamdrok Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra).
Day 07: Visit Palkhur Choid Monastery and drive to Shigatse (3900m.)
Visit Palkhur Choide Monastery, the only monastery which contains different Tibetan Buddhism sects in Tibet, Kumbum Stupa, one of the most magnificent buildings in Tibet of six stories high with 108 doors leading to its inner chambers. Drive to Shigatse.
Day 08: Visit Tashilhumpo Monstery and Drive to Xegar (4350m., 245 km.)
Explore Tashilhunpo Monastery, famous for its giant statue of Buddha Maitreya and massive Thangka on its wall. Drive to Xegar crossing over Gyatsola Pass ( 5220m.) with spectacular views of Mt. Everest.
Day 09: Drive to Zhangmu (2500m., 257 km.)
Drive to Zhangmu crossing over Lalungla Pass (5050m) with breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m) and Mt. Shishapangma (8012m),
Day 10: Drive to Kathmandu (122 km. 4- 5 hrs.)
From Zhangmu drive to Friendship Bridge at the border, complete immigration formalities on both sides and drive to Kathmandu along the Bhote Koshi River. A farewell dinner in the evening at at a typical Nepali restaurant with culture program.
Day 11: Airport Transfer
Airport transfer for international departure.
