Some colossal tombs of Tibetan kings are still preserved on the southernmost section of the valley. Central Tibet tour covers Samye Valley which boasts Tibet’s first monastery, Samye. Central Tibet Tour Route Highlights
Central Tibet tour starts with one hour scenic flight over the Himalayas to Lhasa. We drive to Tsedang and visit Thandruk Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Tibet. We visit Yambulakhang, the first palace in Tibet and giant tombs of Tibetan kings. We proceed to Samye to visit Mindoling Monastery, one of the three biggest monasteries in Tibet followed by Samye Monastery, the oldest monastery with unique architectural design which laid the foundation of Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet. The magnificent views of Yamdruk Lake, well known as the lake of turquoise water from Kambala enhance the pleasure of central Tibet tour. Kumbum stupa, Palkhor Chode Monastery and Gyantse Dzong in Gynatse and Tashilungpu Monastery in Shigatse are the main attractions in these two ancient cities of central Tibet tour.
We drive back to Lhasa and explore famous Potala Palace, old palace of Dalai Lama, Derpung Monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet as well as in the world and the principal seat of the Gelugpa school, Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and the oldest temple in Tibet. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Meeting at the airport and transfer to a hotel. Briefing of the trip at a convenient time.
Day 02: Cultural Tour and Trip preparation (Obtaining Chinese visa)
Sightseeing tour of Swayambhunath, the Buddhist Stupa the profound expression of Bhuddism in Nepal and Kathmandu Durbar Square, clustered with old royal palaces and distinctive pagoda roofed temples, stone sculpture and old monuments.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Lhasa flight (3670m.) – Tsedang
Fly over panoramic Himalayan ranges from Kathmandu to the holy city of Lhasa. Transfer to Hotel. Commence sightseeing tour and visit Thandruk Monastery, probably the oldest monastery in Tibet.
Day 04: Tsedang & Drive to Samye
We commence sightseeing tour in Tsedang by visiting Yambulakhang, the oldest palace in Tibet in Tsedang followed by some of the giant tombs fTibetan kings. We drive to Samye and explore Mindoling Monastery, originally built in 10th century and Samye Monastery establishing the foundation of Buddhism in Tibet.
Day 05: Drive Samye to Gyantse (3960m.)
While ascending to Kamba La we will be rewarded by magnificent views of Yamdruk Lake known as turquoise lake and the scenery of vast grass land before reaching Gyantse. We visit Kumbum stupa, Palkor Chode Monastery and Gyantse dzong.
Day 06: Drive Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m.)
We drive to Shigatse visiting Shalu Monastery en route and visit Tashilungmpu Monsatery , the monastery of Delukpa Sect which houses massive statue of Meitreya Buddha considered to the highest statue in the world.
Day 07: Drive Shigatse to Lhasa (2650m.)
We drive to Lhasa passing vast pasture land, small hamlets of yak herders, high passes with spectacular views of snow capped mountains.
Day 08: Visit Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery and Bharkhor Market.
Visit Potala Palace perched upon the Ri Marpo (Red Hill) 130 meters above Lhasa valley making it the highest monumental in Tibet. Proceed to Drepung Monastery, The largest monastery in Tibet as well as in the world and the principal seat of the Gelugpa school. Next visit Bharkhor Market, the most bustling sections in Lhasa with historical, cultural, religious and commercial importance.
Day 09: Visit Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Norbulinka Palace.
Visit Sera Monastery, the second biggest monastery in Tibet but badly damaged following the invasion of Tibet and the Cultural Revolution, Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and the oldest temple in Tibet, Norbulinka Palace, summer palace of Dalai lama.
Day 10: Lhasa – Kathmandu flight
Fly from Lhasa to Kathmandu in the morning. A farewell dinner in the evening at atypical Nepali restaurant with culture program.
Day 11: Airport Transfer
Airport transfer for international departure.
